Meet Big Chief
16+ hand paint gelding
I promised my daughter a horse when she turned 12 and we found Chief who was owned by one of my good friends. We had our pick of any horse on her ranch, the choice was easy. He was only green broke at the time and had never been in a trailer. I found a great boarding facility in Conroe, took him there for training. Meg was very involved in the training of her horse. After buying our place, we started our lesson program with Big Chief.
He is too smart to be a horse. Chief like to open gates and can work most stall latches. He likes barrel racing and jumping. As an unusual mix of calm, kind and dominant, he makes his riders learn how to ride him properly. If you kick him, he will sometimes kick out, seeming to say “was that really necessary”. He has had many special needs riders, and is our goto guy for very young beginner riders, as he will follow his handler in perfect step and has the smoothest natural trot. Once he feels you know what you are doing, you get his cooperation. Chief is one of our most requested lease horses.
